About This Project

Growth Social House Inc. approached Better Neighbourhoods to work with them on their historic redevelopment of St. James Anglican Church in St. Catharines. This facility was no longer in use, and was at risk of demolition and replacement. The property holds significant historical and cultural value to the surrounding Merritton neighbourhood, as it was used as a cornerstone of the social and religious experience in St. Catharines for many years.

Our work focused on preserving the facility, enhancing the neighbourhood, and increasing the supply of rental and condominium housing in the Southern end of St. Catharines. The result is an incredible renovation which now features 15 condo apartments, ranging from 500 to 1,000 sqft. Soaring vault ceilings, gothic windows and original stained glass features were maintained, while the facilities were retrofit with modern amenities and design styles. A spectacular rooftop terrace is shared by some residents, and enhanced landscaping on the street level enhances the public realm.
